The "Backyard Rambo": Why Your Father the Mosquito Fogger Isn't a M60

We’ve all seen it: the local pest control technician, decked out in a tactical vest, knee pads, and a motorized backpack sprayer, jokingly refer to themselves as "Rambo" while they duck under a suburban hydrangea. To the casual observer, it’s a harmless bit of humor to break up a hot day of manual labor. But for those who understand the history of the name—and the men who lived the reality it represents—the comparison isn't just a stretch; it’s a profound insult. The Reality of the "Green Hell" John Rambo, the fictional character created by David Morrell, was a specialized elite soldier defined by his service in the Vietnam War . While the movies eventually turned him into a superhero, the core of the character was a man haunted by the "Green Hell"—the dense, trap-laden jungles of Southeast Asia. For combat veterans and Navy Corpsmen who served in Vietnam, "crawling through the bushes" wasn't a metaphor for navigating a gated community...

"Gelled Water" by Droïd Fantôm | Post-Punk / Shoegaze | Paris, France

Droïd Fantôm recently joined the Pop Punk Radio rotation with a handful of songs including their single "Gelled Water"

*Droïd Fantôm are brought to us in collaboration with KROD Records! An independent punk rock & alternative record label from Germany! Many of their artist's music on vinyl (and other formats) can be purchased here: link

From the artist's Spotify:

"Droïd Fantôm is Mickaël Montaroux' (Singer/Guitarist of Flèche) solo project. After Flèche went on hiatus following their last album, Mickael wrote a lot of songs and decided to go alone and start his own personal music project. To have more power on the album, Loïc Salmon (Drummer of Flèche) helped him with the drums in the studio.

Emptiness Takes Time is Droïd Fantöm's first album. An attempt of musical independence, to put together what he had in mind without compromise. This album was composed and recorded at home all alone except for the drums and some overdubs with Alexandre Mazarguil at UFO Studio. This LP is clearly influenced by the 90 indie scene from grunge, punk and shoegaze with an emo touch : clear versus vs. heavy chorus and surprising breaks…. With a lot of fuzz (never enough fuzz on chorus…)! It’s simple, direct and sincere. The mastering was done by Thibauld Chaumont at Deviant LAB."
