The "Backyard Rambo": Why Your Father the Mosquito Fogger Isn't a M60

We’ve all seen it: the local pest control technician, decked out in a tactical vest, knee pads, and a motorized backpack sprayer, jokingly refer to themselves as "Rambo" while they duck under a suburban hydrangea. To the casual observer, it’s a harmless bit of humor to break up a hot day of manual labor. But for those who understand the history of the name—and the men who lived the reality it represents—the comparison isn't just a stretch; it’s a profound insult. The Reality of the "Green Hell" John Rambo, the fictional character created by David Morrell, was a specialized elite soldier defined by his service in the Vietnam War . While the movies eventually turned him into a superhero, the core of the character was a man haunted by the "Green Hell"—the dense, trap-laden jungles of Southeast Asia. For combat veterans and Navy Corpsmen who served in Vietnam, "crawling through the bushes" wasn't a metaphor for navigating a gated community...

"CANCEL CULTURE" by WABASH CANNONS | PUNK ROCK | SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA

Wabash Cannons recently joined the Pop Punk Radio rotation with a handful of songs, including "Cancel Culture" from their 2023 LP Light The Fuze. Punk rock from San Diego, California!

From the artist's Spotify:

"Seasoned San Diego punk group, Wabash Cannons get their name from Wabash Hall which hosted some of the best punk shows of the 1980's. Band members Adam Henderson on guitar, Cameron Norred on drums, Knikki Royster with vocals and Ugly Lenny on bass all have had many past-lives in the San Diego Punk scene. Cameron has a long history drumming with several San Diego bands including The Infected, Puzzle Box, Wax Models (Las Vegas), The Union, Confederats, PBR and Media Backlash. Adam Henderson brings the chaos with chainsaw-like guitar and power. His accolades include Open Container, Filner Headlock and founding member of Strychnine 99. Ugly Lenny has been a staple in the San Diego punk scene for decades. He is a founding and current member of and he also currently plays with and horror punk band.

Because Ugly Lenny did not have enough on his plate he added Wabash Cannons in Spring of 2023. In 2021 the boys adopted female lead singer Knikki Royster to take the band in a different direction. She became a quick study, injecting decades of social justice work with at-risk youth, womens’ causes and free speech into her lyrics. She has made appearances singing, recording and performing with Inciting Riots, Skullbusters, and Broke Bastards.

Wabash are currently creating new material, playing gigs and are very excited to be part of the "Punk Renaissance" happening in Southern California."
