SUM 41 ALBUMS RANKED TIER LIST

My ranking scheme: FAV / GREAT / GOOD / DECENT / MEH - I replace the standard "S" tier with my own top level tier of Favorites. This way I can highlight albums that have a bit more personal meaning to me while still celebrating the albums that are deserving of a top level ranking.

*Note: Every ranking exists within it's own isolated universe. Meaning the albums are only being compared to other albums from the same band. In this way, it would be unfair to compare one of my tier-lists for band A with a tier-list from band B.

1. Half Hour Of Power (2000) - MEH

Pro: Deryck's vocals sound great right from the get-go.

"32 Ways To Die" is less of a song and more of a drum-solo dedicated to it's own track.

"Ride The Chariot To The Devil" feels like it would be a great replacement for a scene from Mike Tyson's Punch Out on the NES.

Con: It's not a "bad" album but nothing really grabs me.

Some choruses repeat the same lines.

Fav Songs: "Makes No Difference" / "THT"

2. All Killer No Filler (2001) - GREAT

Pro: Pop punk / skate punk energy.

"Fat Lip" and "In Too Deep" remain two of the band's biggest hits.

"Pain For Pleasure" is a rocking tribute to Iron Maiden sung by drummer Steve "Stevo" Jocz. No relation to Steve-O from Jackass.

Con: Aside from maybe two songs the whole album kinda sounds the same.

Fav Songs: "Motivation"

3. Does This Look Infected? (2002) - FAV

Pro: Rocking energy. Heavier than the previous album.

"The Hell Song" is a great opening track.

"Over My Head" & "Still Waiting" continue with arguably one of the best trio of opening songs in pop-punk history?

Con: Album cover is kind of gross.

Fav Songs: "Thanks For Nothing" / "Hooch"

4. Chuck (2004) - GREAT

Pro: Darker lyrical content than the previous albums.

"We're All To Blame" opens the album in heavy fashion.

Songs such as "Some Say," "Slipping Away," and "Pieces" reveal a softer side of Sum 41.

Con: Final album to feature Dave "Brownsound" Baksh, at least for a few years.

Also final album to feature full classic line-up.

Fav Songs: "Open Your Eyes"

5. Underclass Hero (2007) - FAV

Pro: "Underclass Hero" opens the album with a return to pop-punk / skate-punk energy.

Softer songs like "With Me," "Best Of Me," and "Dear Father" continue to showcase the band's evolving sound.

Con: Album art is kinda whatevers.

Fav Songs: "Walking Disaster" / "Count Your Last Blessings"

6. Screaming Bloody Murder (2011) - MEH

Pro: Awesome cinematic music video for "Blood In My Eyes"

Bust out your dancin' shoes for "Baby You Don't Wanna Know"

Con: Final album with original drummer Steve Jocz.

Most of the album doesn't really sink it's teeth in to me the way their earlier albums have.

Fav Songs: "Screaming Bloody Murder" / "Skumfuk"

 7. 13 Voices (2016) - DECENT

Pro: Dave "Brownsound" Baksh returns after nine year hiatus! He also has a killer guitar solo on the album's opening track "Goddamn I'm Dead Again"

"War" is a strong single.

First album with Sum 41 as a five-piece.

First album on independent label Hopeless Records.

Con: Generic album art.

Fav Songs: "Fake My Own Death" / "There Will Be Blood"

8. Order In Decline (2019) - GOOD

Pro: Heaviest and most aggressive album of the band's career so far.

"Out For Blood" continues the band's obsession with bloody song titles.

"Never There" is one of my all-time favorite songs from the band.

Con: I enjoy the album's heavier sound as a whole but only one or two songs really stand out.

Fav Songs:  "The New Sensation" / "A Death In The Family" / "45 (A Matter Of Time)"
