WHY DO HEROIN ADDICTS THINK THEY'RE "COOL?"
It’s a scene that strips away any remaining shred of respect. It leaves you wondering: how does anyone reach a point where they think sticking a needle into their own body is a "good idea"?
The Violation of Nature
Humans are hardwired for self-preservation. We flinch at pain and protect our skin. To watch someone bypass every survival instinct just to chase a chemical high is fundamentally revolting. It isn’t just a "bad choice"; it’s a total surrender of human dignity.
When you see the reality of heroin use, the filth, the desperation, and the literal puncture wounds, the "glamour" or "tragedy" often portrayed in movies disappears. What’s left is just something ugly and pathetic.
The Sound of Rock Bottom
That gasp is what haunts me. It wasn't a sound of relief; it was the sound of someone disappearing.
When you witness that, the relationship changes forever. It is incredibly difficult to maintain respect for a person who:
Forces you to be a spectator to their self-destruction.
Values a needle more than their own life or your friendship.
Willfully engages in a habit that turns them into a shell of a human being.
Beyond Common Sense
Most people look at a needle and see a medical tool or a source of pain. To see it as a "solution" requires a level of mental gymnastics that I will never understand. It’s a disgusting drug that breeds disgusting behavior, and pretending otherwise doesn't change the reality of what it looks like on the ground.
At the end of the day, you can't force someone to respect themselves, and you certainly aren't required to respect them while they’re busy destroying everything in sight. Some sights are just too vile to ever excuse.
And seriously, why in the ever-loving-fuck do heroin addicts always have the delusion of thinking of themselves as being so much cooler than everyone else? You literally inject a drug into your body because you're such a fucking weak-minded pussy that you can't say no to it, but you want me to believe that you think you're "cool?" Oh jeez!!!
