WHY IT FEELS GOOD TO MAKE MUSIC PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANT TO HEAR

It took me two years to generate my first $25 in royalty payments for my licensed music. It was just some boring ambient electronic stuff that I started experimenting with during the pandemic, mostly as a way to calm myself down. I wasn't making a concerted effort to make money, it was more of a "let's see what happens" approach. Nothing really happened. When AI music tools appeared in 2024, I found myself with a brand new way to get my song ideas out there. I already had a huge stash of lyrics stored away in un-posted blogs or on scraps of paper in a box. Song lyrics or concepts I had come up with going back to junior high or early high school. AI tools allowed me to flesh out these song ideas in a way I would have never been able to do on my own. In a far more robust variety of sounds than I would ever be able to do on my own. However, people still weren't super interested in listening to what I had to say. I took a bit of inspiration from a song I saw going vir...

"I'VE SEEN FOOTAGE" by DEATH GRIPS | RAP & HIP-HOP | SACRAMENTO, CA

What did you think this was, a pop punk website or something?

This dude was the biggest surprise I witnessed at Sick New World in 2023. I honestly had more fun watching his set than I did watching System of a Down. Nothing against System, because they were great. But the energy in the crowd during Death Grips was amazing.

I also had no idea who he was, he just came on right after whoever the fuck I was watching before him. He came on earlier in the day but on the mainstage and that crowd was absolutely SLAMMIN! His mic didn't even work for the first song and a half, so I thought I was watching a drum & bass act or something at first. But once the vocals came in, that crowd went into a frenzy. Everyone jumping up and down.

The drummer, no joke, did not stop for the entire 20 minute set!!! Just one song right into the other. And these are NOT slow songs. I have been to EDM events and even semi-grew-up with a guy who headlined the bass stage at EDC. Death Grips was right up there with him, but he does it all LIVE! Not some bullshit pre-recorded mix. I've been to over 300 concerts in my lifetime and seen over 1,000 acts. I've NEVER seen a drummer blast through a 20 minute set without stopping before!

If I ever have a chance to check them out again, I won't miss it! Neither should you!
