WHY YOUR CORPORATE MEGA-CHURCH SERMONS ACTUALLY MISS THE MARK ENTIRELY

Q: Our pastor had a long sermon recently that felt like it was trying to shame us in to volunteering for the church. He tells a story about how God gave three people a gold coin. One person turned it in to 10 coins, another person turned it in to 5 coins, one person hid the coin and kept it safe so God wouldn't be mad at him for losing it.  Then he talks about how god was so happy for the person who turned his coin in to 10 coins and felt such shame for the person who just tried not to lose it. I find this highly faulty, because there is zero discussion about how the man turned 1 coin into 10. How do we know he wasn't out there scamming people and taking advantage of them? And why is the person who just tried not to lose the coin such a terrible human?  What about a fourth scenario where someone takes the gold coin and goes and spends it all on themselves and wastes it? This type of sermon makes me not want to attend this church.   A: It is completely understandable why...
