Why on Earth would any young man decide to watch programming that wasn't made for him, or by people like him, or by people who even like him? I grew up watching Ellen Ripley kick Alien ass. When the movie was first released, you didn't even know Ellen was going to be the main character until the Captain of the ship gets killed near the third act of the film. She ends up being the only one who survives the first film, defeating the alien in the process. In Aliens, we watch a bunch of badass macho marines who are cocky and full of ego get absolutely destroyed by the Aliens , turning the badass marines into a pile of frightened children. Ellen Ripley not only busts in and saves them from the alien hive, but she ends up being the one to lead and teach those marines how to fight the aliens. Now that is how you write a solid character arc. We watch our protagonist grow from being an absolute nobody, someone we can all relate with, to becoming a fucking badass who handles the shitty...
